Doctors For Nepal Doctors For Nepal
Much of rural Nepal has less than 1 doctor per 100,000 population. People often walk for several days over some of the world’s most challenging terrain to reach basic healthcare.
Doctors For Nepal provides scholarships to underprivileged medical, nursing and midwifery students who, once qualified, return to their remote communities to provide desperately needed medical care.
After graduation, they are contracted to work for between two and four years in remote rural areas before receiving their final graduation certificate.
We are sponsoring their first DFN health camp in October this year, focusing on women of reproductive age in Karnali Province. Medics and nurses will offer antenatal care, gynaecological consultations and health education. The health camp model means that medics and nurses will travel to the patients and as such remove the significant geographical barrier in accessing healthcare. As the team are from the area, cultural and language barriers are also reduced.
