Tukongote Community Projects
Our partners at Tukongote Community Projects in Zambia have been busy expanding their agricultural co-operative programme, which now feeds 230 pupils, teachers and staff, daily!
Forging a connection with the community schools, each class has a growing plot, so that they can learn and appreciate where their food comes from.
This year they are hoping to extend their growing space and also add fish and pigs. They have also been using the hammer mill we sponsored, to grind their own maize, providing a nutritious, more cost-effective staple for the local community.
Tukongote’s community projects and schools have been seriously impacted by a reduction in tourists to Zambia, as they usually rely on funding from international guests visiting the adjoining lodge. Our grant will help subsidise project and overhead costs as they welcome a steady flow of tourists back.
